Kamalapura is a village in the Bellary district of Karnataka. The town is located nearby the Hampi temple complex and lies within the ruins of the old Vijayanagara city.
Kamalapura's history is interwoven with Hampi which was part of the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire from 1336 to 1565.
Hospet is the gateway to Kamalapur. Hospet is located at a distance of around 370 km from Bangalore and well connected by road to the state capital.
The Archeological Museum is the prime attraction of Kamalapura. The museum houses many items from the ruins. There is also a scaled model of the city center of Vijayanagara in the museum complex. Kamalapura also has a number of old temples such as the Nagaresvara Temple.
